Credit profile improvement

They figured out what was wrong.

Most people don't know what's on their bureau until they get declined. These members joined to find out — and stayed to fix it.

I'd been turned down for vehicle finance twice and nobody could tell me why. The platform pulled my report and showed me two old listings I didn't even know about — a clothing account from 2019 and a phone contract that was supposed to be settled. Zoe walked me through the dispute process and gave me the wording for the letters. Six weeks later both listings were off. Score moved almost 90 points.

I'm 41 and I'd never looked at my own profile. Assumed because I pay everything on time it was fine. It wasn't fine — thin file, no history of my own. The plan showed me what to build first. Eight months in and I qualified for my first retail account in my own name.

My utilisation was sitting over 90% on a card I'd forgotten about — old debit order I'd set up years ago. Dashboard flagged it as my biggest issue. Paid it down per the plan and watched the score move three months in a row.

What I appreciated was nobody talked down to me. The Learn section was in normal English and Zoe answered my "stupid questions" without judgement. Three months in I finally understand what's going on with my own money.

Used the 3-month refresh to see if the plan was actually working. It was. Kept going. By month 12 my score was where I needed it for the home loan. Bank approved.

Had two accounts sitting in arrears I genuinely thought were closed. Zoe spotted them in the first report. Sorted both out in about two months. The platform made it obvious what to do — that's the part that helped most.

Been declined twice before joining. Sorted two bad standing accounts and followed the 90 day plan. Approved for a personal loan 6 months later. Big difference.

Debt review members

Members under debt review who finally understood it.

Debt review keeps creditors off your back, but it doesn't tell you what's actually happening with your profile. These members signed up to know — and to plan their exit.

I'd been under debt review for almost two years and honestly had no idea where I was in the process. My debt counsellor sent a statement once a month but I didn't understand half of it. The "My Status" tab made it clear — which stage I was at, how many accounts were active, when the next milestone was. For the first time I had a sense of "this is real, it's actually moving." Finished my final repayment two months ago.

When I first applied for debt review I thought my life was over. Thrive's DR dashboard didn't pretend my score was something it wasn't — it showed the timeline and what I could actually do. Also stopped me applying for credit while under review, which I'd been considering. I'm 14 months in and I know what I'm doing.

My debt counsellor is good but he handles hundreds of clients. Thrive's monthly plan reminded me what to do, when to do it, and why. Felt like I had a second person in my corner without paying extra.

Two years into debt review and still no clear answer on when I'd be out. The platform mapped my actual timeline based on what was paid down vs still owed. Realistic, no fluff. Made the last stretch of payments much easier mentally.

Paid up my DR almost two years ago. Bank declined my home loan because the flag was still showing. Nobody had told me I needed a Section 71 clearance. Thrive walked me through it and connected me to the legal team. Flag gone in 4 months. Bank approved.

I was paying my DR for years without really understanding it. The platform broke down what each payment was actually doing and how close I was to the finish. Knowing changed everything — I stopped feeling like I was throwing money into a hole.

Came out of debt review last year but the flag stayed on. Thought I just had to wait it out. Thrive showed me there was actually a process to get it removed. Three months later it was gone and I could start applying for credit again.

Judgments cleared

They didn't know judgments could be removed.

A judgment stays on your profile for years and most people don't realise they can dispute the ones that shouldn't be there, or settle the ones that are valid in a way that actually moves the needle.

I had a judgment from 2018 I never even knew about. I'd moved house in 2017 and apparently a debt collector served papers at my old address — default judgment granted, listing already on my profile by the time I found out. Thrive showed me exactly which court, what the original amount was, and what my options were. Ended up rescinding the judgment because I could prove I hadn't been properly served. Listing came off and my score moved 73 points.

Had two judgments from a hard period five years ago. Paid them both off but the listings were still showing. Nobody told me paying doesn't automatically remove them. Thrive helped me get abandonment letters from both creditors and walked me through the bureau update. Both cleared in about three months.

One judgment for about R8,000 from an old gym contract that had snowballed with legal fees. I'd been avoiding it for years. Zoe helped me work out a settlement offer. Settled for less than half. Listing off within a month of payment.

Three listings, one of them a judgment from a furniture account I'd settled in 2020. The dispute template was straightforward and the company removed it after I sent the proof of payment. Done in 6 weeks.

I had a default judgment from 2019 that I genuinely thought I'd have to live with. Found out through Thrive I could apply for rescission since I'd never been served. Took 4 months and it was removed. I cried when I saw the updated report.

Honestly the most useful thing was just having someone explain that the judgment didn't define me forever. There's a process to deal with it, takes time and the right steps. Thrive gave me both.
